Teaching Philosophy

I typically teach from my vast experience playing classical piano, though I often help students in learning and performing other genres of music. After discussing the student’s goals and motivations, I develop a plan to meet these goals, as well as a method to teach the fundamental skills required to be a proficient pianist and a knowledgeable musician.

I encourage students to learn fundamental music theory and try to incorporate these fundamentals into relevant and meaningful lessons. I believe that this helps build a strong knowledge base that will help the student develop and progress.

I believe in teaching students how to listen, how to be mindful in their practice, and how to be the most effective in meeting the challenges of learning the piano.

Finally, I see it imperative teach off each student’s individual strengths and learning styles. I strive to create a custom lesson plan for each student that works with these strengths, so that the process of learning the piano can be enjoyable and fun.
